After I heard the mess that is We Can’t Stop, my hopes for her new record Bangerz were close to null.  However, as soon as I played Wrecking Ball, I could tell it was the talented Cyrus reappearing.  In our We Can’t Stop review, I pointed out the horrifying lyrics and the terrible sound.  Wrecking Ball is the exact opposite.

The song’s verses and bridge are soft and have slower-pacing, but a booming, captivating chorus adds intriguing contrast to Wrecking Ball.  It is a catchy but obviously meaningful pop song.  Cyrus’s voice sounds absolutely stunning.  “We clawed, we chained, our hearts in vain / We jumped, never asking why / We kissed, I fell under your spell / A love no one could deny / Don’t you ever say I just walked away / I will always want you / I can’t live a lie, running for my life / I will always want you…I never meant to start a war / I just wanted you to let me in / And instead of using force / I guess I should’ve let you win.”  These lyrics are so poetic I can feel emotional pain of my own when I hear the song.  This is exactly what I was asking for her to do after hearing the first single — bring your talent back — and she delivered.

Wrecking Ball is a work of art.  Buy it.
