Comment: Having only watched the remake once in theatres, and enjoying it immensely, I still rank the original as better, but only slightly.  Preferring the original is may have to do a lot with nostalgia and the fact that it spawned two great sequels. But it was unique, original and scary. It may be dated by today’s horror film standards, but it still holds up in my eyes.

I can imagine the remake taking over as my favorite of the two someday, but the original lead to so many great films afterwards in not only Evil Dead films, but in films and television throughout the careers of the director/writers (Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert) and star (Bruce Campbell) of the original that its hard to find anything else in recent film history that spawned so much entertainment upon the world that was only because of their original small independent horror movie.

The new movie, is just that, and only time will tell if it sets a new standard and vision for future horror films.  I’m hoping it does because the effects were great and the story kept you involved and tense the entire time.

That’s my two cents and thank you for reading. is offering one lucky Film-Social reader a chance to win a copy of Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead (2013), starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jessica Lucas. The horror film arrives on Blu-ray + Ultraviolet Combo Pack July 16th, 2013.
